History

Black Vinyl Records was established in 1996 as the 'trax' imprint of Hott
Records.

Hott was one of the first U.K labels to produce and release authentic 'U.S
Garage' music in Europe, releasing material by the likes of Urban Blues
Project, Alexander Hope, Marshall Jefferson and many more.

While Hott specialised in soulful vocal releases, Black Vinyl focused on
disco influenced House and 'track' style cuts. Hott Records ceased trading in 1998, so the label founder, Alan Russell, took 100% ownership of Black Vinyl and promptly set about re-building the label from the roots.

Early releases from artists such as Scottie Deep, 95 North, Splice Of Life and Braxton Holmes helped Black Vinyl establish a firm base of support amongst serious DJs and House Music lovers everywhere, while a consistent commitment to quality and originality won the respect of the dance community world-wide.

In 1999 Black Vinyl became a fully-functioning independent label and stepped up its release schedule enjoying success with the hugely popular Disco Dreams' series by D.J Spen, 'The Power' by Karizma, and with releases by Kerri Chandler, Futuresoul, Militant Soul Productions and Fresh & Low.

In 2000 Black Vinyl continued to build on its reputation for releasing top quality underground dance music with tracks like 'Roots' by Tedd Patterson,'I Need You' by D.J Pope, 'Especiale' by Fresh & Low and 'Mi Destino' by Miguel Migs.

From 2001 through to the present day Black Vinyls commitment to quality has
continued with releases by Arnold Jarvis & Alix Alvarez, Miguel Migs & jay-j and more recently with a host of new artists including DJ Aguy, Rhythm of Elements, D¹stephanie, King DK, Tim Richards and Tarot & Marbach.

Black Vinyl is now something of a legend in Underground House circles, renowned for discovering new talent such as DJ Chus, Rasmus Faber, Groove Assassins, Paulo Rocha and many more, and for blazing a trail that others often follow. Watched closely by major labels and industry insiders world wide, many artists who have had breakthrough releases on Black Vinyl go on to major success.

The label has also had tracks licensed to compilation albums in territories as diverse as South Africa, Argentina, Australia, Japan, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Holland, Italy, the U.S.A and elsewhere. In the U.K Black Vinyl tracks feature on mix albums by the likes of Danny Rampling, Farley & Heller, Jon Marsh, Yousef, Tedd Patterson, Phil Asher, and many more. At the last count Black Vinyl tracks appeared on well over 100 albums
world wide

In 2004 and 2005 the label concentrated on re-releasing some of the classic tracks from the back catalogue, with the very well received RE:CUTS series reminding many listeners of just how influential the label has been in pushing the Underground House sound forward.

In 2006 Black Vinyl is celebrating ten years in existence with a series of parties around the globe (check the FORUM for up to date news) and with several new 12" releases and a "Best Of Black Vinyl" compilation planned for the end of the year.
